COACHES FIRED UP AT THE FIREBIRDS

VickiAt the exciting Firebirds game today, some of coaches took the opportunity to attend the “Reading the Play” session with Vicki Wilson before the start of play.  They had work to complete whilst they watched the game, then met up afterwards to share their thoughts.  Vicki was impressed with the discussion.  Looks like some very well informed coaching for the season.

Thank you to our Coaches who last week were lucky enough to hear from Jill McIntosh on the importance of the Fundamental skills.  “Doing the simply things correctly is the key to a great netballer”.  Jill was a former Australian player for 6 years which include a gold medal at the World Championships and went on to coach the Australian team for 9 years guiding her players to 2 World Championship gold and two Commonwealth Games gold.  To say she is a legend of our sport is an understatement!

GREAT TO SEE SO MANY GIRLS PLAYING NETBALL!

Thank you to our members for your patience.  Attached is the team list for 7-13 year olds.  2014 Team List  The Intermediates and Seniors will require another grading this Wednesday before the teams can be announced.

Big thank you to all players who turned up to grading and to those who helped with selections.  This is always a difficult task – there has been a lot of hard work and sleepless nights to put together 250 girls into 31 teams.

Our club has been very lucky with an increase of numbers, an extra 6 teams and also such a lot of talent in all age groups and divisions. In the words of Norma Plummer, former Australian Coach and now West Coast Fever Coach “selection has been like splitting straws”.

The delay has been the result of odd numbers in each age group.  We need it to divide into 8 or 9.  As you can see this is not the case.  If we do not find the couple of extra girls needed in some age groups we will need to re-distribute those teams.  So ask your friends to come and play.

Players Needed in:

  • 7/8 Years – 2-3 players
  • 9 Years – 1-2 players
  • 12 Years – 1-2 players
  • 13 years – 1-2 players

Can I ask all our members to familiarise themselves with our Selection Policy and Procedure which can be found on the website under “Policies”
