UMPIRING – RULE OF THE WEEK

UmpireThis week we have two rules.  One especially aimed at the Juniors:

Rule 13:  Playing the Ball

  • 13.2 (ii) A player may not fall on the ball to gain possession.  (We are not playing rugby girls!)

Also, one for everyone.  This rule is especially important to ensure the safety of all players:

  • images13.5  – If two (2) opposing players gain possession of the ball in quick succession, the Umpire shall call “Possession” and indicate the player who first caught the ball.  Play shall continue with this player in possession of the ball.
  • So Umpires make your call quickly and loudly to ensure smooth running of the game because it is not the player who can pull the hardest that gets the ball it it the players who first gained possession.
  • Our Coaching Convenor would add to this that this means you should ALWAYS have TWO strong hands onto the ball at all times to ensure you gain possession first.

FUTURE TALENT FOR RANGERS

Morran and firebirdRecently Morran Barter, after completing the Western Districts Net Set Go program, won the colouring competition.  Her prize was to play during half time at the Firebirds vs Vixen game.  She also was able to meet some of the Firebirds – pictured here with Demelza McLoud.

Morran is a  future Ranger’s girl with Mum Shona and Sister Grace already playing for the club.

SUNSHINE FOR OUR FIRST GAME AFTER HOLIDAYS

IMG_0027What a lovely day for netball – our senior girls looked great in their new bibs.  It was a lucky charm for some.

Every Saturday with 25 teams we have a bunch of great coaches who support our teams – thanks for you efforts!  We are also very lucky to have loyal Rangers girls who help out at short notice when needed.  We would like to thank the following players who are always available to fill in when needed:

  • Georgia Smith is there at 8.15am every week to help her 12 years team umpire.
  • Courtney Mansfield was happy to help out with coaching when a coach had to leave early.
  • Emily Serow umpires every week.
  • Emily Turner filled in for a coach who was away and umpired when another club did not turn up.
  • Ryhlee Spasojevic was happy to umpire/coach for a coach who was on holidays.
  • Allanah Gardner umpires every week at 8.15 and  filled in for an umpire who did not bother to show and then went and coached her 9 years team.
